The installation is an abstract depiction of two opponents striving for the
ball in an attempt to capture the juxtaposition of speed versus power as
well as energy and the complexity of body movements, in a competitive
space. I have been inspired by Constructivist works and how they
placed simple geometric forms in the kind of literary context which turned
such forms into representations, or near representations, of actual objects.
Every strip has been created from cut sheets of metal and moulded
manually – illustrating various curves and movements. They are covered
with fabric from football shirts of two opposing teams which have been
draped to add fluidity and reflect the creases of the shirt against the body.
Several layers of clear lacquer is applied and set to allow light reflections
to ricochet off each strip, thus demonstrating the notion of speed.
